Safeguarding
of Children
Any User hiring the Hall to provide a
facility for children is required to show their CRB disclosure certificate to
either the Booking Secretary or the Caretaker and the disclosure number is
recorded. Any delegation by that hirer to other people to supervise the
children is the responsibility of the hirer and UVH does not vet these
delegates for CRB disclosure.
The only exception to the above is when
the Hall is hired out for a private children’s party. UVH states in its hiring
rules that a specific child/adult ratio should be maintained throughout the
period – however UVH takes no action to vet the person(s) hiring the hall for
these one-off events.
The UVH Health & Safety Policy
addresses issues pertaining to the safe use of the Hall by children.
Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults
Any User hiring the Hall to provide a facility specifically aimed at potentially
vulnerable adults must be a representative of an appropriate organisation
recognised as supporting such adults. UVH take no further action in vetting
these staff.
General Points
UVH hires the facility to numerous other
groups pursuing many different interests. Whether children and
vulnerable adults attend these events is not an issue addressed by the Booking
Secretary. Organisers of all User groups should themselves be aware of their
duties towards Safeguarding.
UVH employees and volunteer trustees do not supervise children or vulnerable
adults as part of their function within UVH. CRB checks are not required of
them.
When UVH Trustees organise events to
include children – it is always stated that children must be accompanied by
parents or guardians.
This policy was discussed and agreed
at the UVH Board meeting of 19 February 2010 and will be reviewed when changes
occur in national legislation or procedures.
