Issues where we currently fall short of our Vision

(the ‘triggers’ our next Refurbishment Project should address)

(Key concerns (the ‘must haves’) are in bold; the minor ‘nice-to-haves’ in small font)

Main hall

stage area has drab ‘has-been’ image for most hall users and is under utilised

        poor for illustrated presentations

poor interaction with provisions to/from the kitchen – one small serving hatch

fire exit safety below the expectations of many of today’s users

proceedings interrupted by access to other rooms

Kitchen

Hygiene & safety well below today’s standards (general design & specifics such as locked cupboards)

Inefficient for catering operations & occasional bar operations

Facilities and their operation well below today’s expectation of users

        Access and layout poor

Generally only feasible to provide beverages & biscuits

Overall image poor in comparison to other similar hall amenities

Storage space

(as much a Hall facility as a meeting place for the people – currently not charged)

Current lack of availability is blamed on inadequate space but the efficiency of current utilisation is very poor – has grown organically over decades and is scattered with no evidence of any major review and redistribution amongst users.

No incentive to dispose of unneeded items

Strong territorial defence dominates current usage

Committee Room 1(Committee Room 2 – seen as adequate at present)

Access frequently disturbs other hall users (no direct entrance or toilet access)

Under utilised and may have more demand if publicised

Drab room often used for storage

Entrance / Cloaks / Toilet facilities

         Acceptable if properly maintained

Overall image / comfort / standards of the whole building

(External image -  when accepted as a period building – is generally good)

Major professional review of all safety standards needed to assure users

        Cleanliness is below user expectations

Heating and lighting provision generally below current user expectations

Maintenance demands are likely to increase

External - Traffic flow and access can be bad if intent not strictly followed
