'4-SCORE - 'still-to-do' list at
Upton-by-Chester Village Hall

During the final two years of the 4-SCORE project
- 3 major areas remain to be addressed -

Note that the Trustees and the Project Steering Group have the priority and timing of these improvements under regular review

- Design & implement improvements to Meeting room. The roof, ceiling and void to be thoroughly investigated and remedial action taken. The ceiling character to be retained but with much improved heat and sound insulation. The brick walls to be insulated and plastered to improve heat and sound insulation. Doors to the new hall standard providing better sound insulation. Much improved lighting and heating control. New carpet and decoration. The room should become a cozy meeting room for up to 20 people (smaller number with tables and equipment).

- Design & implement temperature & lighting improvements to main hall. The skylights and their blinds are at the end of their useful life. Heating costs are rising and hot summer days lead to overheating for some activities. To identify any User Group requirement for natural lighting - the skylights are to be blacked out for several months as an temporary evaluation exercise. The 'Carbon Trust' are then helping us to evaluate the eco-economics of heating/cooling & lighting. This sub-project will require significant Grant money and hence a very good 'Green' financial case needs to be made - whether we roof over the skylights / fit solar panels / install 'state-of-the-art' electrically controlled 'auto' skylights.

- Review & implement improved standards for the Electrical distribution The kitchen was given a new circuit - the full load of all appliances exceeding our current capacity. Other hall circuits are dated and circuit protection is below current 'new build' standards. Location of power outlets and light switches are to be improved where feasible.

Besides these project issues - a number of improvents are underway or under consideration - largely based on available resources - financial and able manpower ---
  • refurbishment / replacement of chairs
  • review and resolve table needs and their storage
  • car park surface improvements and line markings / IN /OUT markings and disabled carpark allocation.
  • - consider and implement other issues to comply with DDAAudit
